WHO

Who should consider testing?

All athletes can benefit from testing and we have relevant test protocols for most types of sport.

For endurance athletes, we use 2 types of testing:
1. Standard metabolic testing, via a ramp test and lactate sampling.
2. Full metabolic and physiological profile. For this we use INSCYD software - the most advanced tool to analyze and plan endurance performance in athletes.

WHY

Why, what are the benefits of (metabolic) testing?

Why is testing important?

Through testing, we can create a metabolic profile, and understand what type of muscles are more predominantly recruited during training, and event participation.

The performance you are looking for is composed of a variety of components and metrics, but if you only focus on threshold pace, or your FTP, heart rate zones, or keep training only according to your Rate of Perceived Exertion, you’ll miss accuracy and efficiency.

For example, with INSCYD you can finally understand the interactions between your aerobic system and your fuelling needs. Do you wonder, “How much should I consume per hour in order to maintain my performance?” With INSCYD, you'll know.

INSCYD takes into account, and connect to one another, the most important metrics for training purposes:

VO2max
Anaerobic threshold
Lactate accumulation and recovery
Fat and carbohydrates combustion
Recovery
VLamax (or glycolytic capacity)

Each of the above metrics measured by INSCYD is critical to performance and remember, each sport performance is predictable and can be broken down to these fundamental elements. r

Take VLamax, for example. Although you might have never heard of it, VLamax. It is the single most important measurement to enhance your performance. VLamax is the maximum production of lactic acid in your blood and gives you a complete understanding of your anaerobic metabolism (which yes, is crucial in endurance events, too!). VO2max is aerobic, now we know the anaerobic piece, which turns out to be at least as important.

HOW

How do we test?

There are 3 ways that tests can be done:

1. Most of the tests are done in our test lab in Hartbeespoortdam, in the North West province in South-Africa.

2. We can do testing at the client's facility and on their equipment or in the field (track, road, trails, etc).

 3. Alternatively, for cyclists and runners, testing is done remotely where the athlete follows a set test protocol on a bicycle by using a power meter,  or running with GPS and/or running power data. The data files are then sent to us for analysis.

Cost for testing  ranges beetween R995 - R3,000. Please inquire online.
